Braga, a two thousand year old city with a warrior past, is one of the oldest Christian cities in the world – has a vast religious heritage. Churches abound in its historical center like Rome. During the Holy Week, the Ex-Libris for the city culture, all the altars, each evoking a scene from the Passion of Christ, are decorated with flowers and candles. This week attracts hundreds of thousands of tourists to the city that essentially look for the big night processions which are characterized by hundreds of figurines. On Wednesday takes place the traditional procession of the Donkey, on Thursday the procession of Ecce Homo and in Good Friday, the solemn Theoforic Procession of the Lord’s Burial. In all of them are recreated paintings of religious history.
